RESUMO

In light of recent cryptocurrency value fluctuations, Bitcoin is gradually gaining recognition as an investment vehicle. Given the market's inherent volatility, accurate forecasting becomes crucial for making informed investment decisions. Notably, previous research has utilized machine learning methods to enhance the accuracy of Bitcoin price predictions. However, few studies have explored the potential of employing diverse modeling methods for sampling with varying data formats and dimensional characteristics. This study aims to identify the internal feature subset that yields the highest returns in forecasting Bitcoin's price. Specifically, Bitcoin's internal features were categorized into four groups: currency data, block details, mining information, and network difficulty. Subsequently, a long short-term memory (LSTM) artificial neural network was employed to predict the next day's Bitcoin closing price, utilizing various categorizations of feature subsets. The model underwent training using two and a half years of historical data for each feature. The findings revealed a mean absolute error rate of 6.38% when modeling with the block details category features. This enhanced performance primarily stemmed from the positive relationship between Bitcoin price and this data subset's low ambiguity. Experimental results underscored that, compared to other investigated feature subsets, the categorization of block detail features provided the most accurate Bitcoin price predictions, laying the foundation for future research in this domain.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) has long been used for cardiorespiratory support in the immediate post-paediatric cardiac surgery period with a 2-3% success as per the ELSO registry. Success in recovery depends upon the optimal delivery of critical care to paediatric patients and a comprehensive healthcare team. METHODOLOGY: The survival benefit of children placed on central veno arterial (VA) ECMO following elective cardiac surgeries for congenital heart disease (n = 672) was studied in a cohort of 29 (4.3%) cases from the period of Jan 2018 to Dec 2022 in our cardiac surgical centre. Indications for placing these patients on central VA ECMO included inability to wean from cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), low cardiac output syndrome, severe pulmonary arterial hypertension, significant bleeding, anaphylaxis, respiratory failure and severe pulmonary edema. RESULTS: The mean time to initiation of ECMO was less than 5 h and the mean duration of ECMO support was 56 h with a survival rate of 58.3%. Amongst perioperative complications, sepsis and arrhythmia on ECMO were found to be negatively associated with survival. Improvements in the pH, PaO2 levels and serum lactate levels after initiation of ECMO were associated with survival benefits. CONCLUSION: The early initiation of ECMO for paediatric cardiotomies could be a beacon of hope for families and medical teams confronting these challenging situations. Improvement in indicators of adequate perfusion and ventricular recoveries like pH and serum lactate and absence of arrhythmia and sepsis are associated with good outcomes.

RESUMO

To study the effect of diamagnetic ions on magnetic interactions, utilizing a compartmental ligand (Z)-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4-methyl-6-((quinolin-8-ylimino)methyl)phenol (LH2), two different series of ZnII-LnIII complexes, namely the trinuclear series of [DyZn2(L)2(µ2-OAc)2(CH3OH)2]·NO3·MeOH (1), [TbZn2(L)2(µ2-OAc)2(CH3OH)2]·NO3·5MeOH·H2O (2), and [GdZn2(L)2(µ2-OAc)2(CH3OH)2]·NO3·MeOH·CHCl3 (3) and the tetranuclear series of [Dy2Zn2(LH)4(NO3)4(µ2OAc)]·NO3·MeOH·H2O (4), [Tb2Zn2(LH)4(NO3)4(µ2-OAc)]·NO3·MeOH·2H2O (5), and [Gd2Zn2(LH)4(NO3)4(µ2-OAc)]·NO3·MeOH·2H2O (6), were synthesized. Trinuclear ZnII-LnIII complexes 1-3 consist of one LnIII ion sandwiched between two peripheral ZnII ions forming a bent type ZnII-DyIII-ZnII array with an angle of 110.64°. Tetranuclear ZnII-LnIII complexes 4-6 are basically a combination of two dinuclear moieties of [LnZn(LH)2(NO3)2]+ connected by one bidentate bridging acetate ion in µ2-OAc coordination mode. The detailed magnetic analysis reveals that complexes 1 and 4 are single molecule magnets having energy barriers of 34.98 K and 46.71 K with relaxation times (τ0) of 5.05 × 10-4 s and 5.24 × 10-4 s, respectively. Ab initio calculations were employed to analyze the magnetic anisotropy and magnetic exchange interaction between the ZnII and LnIII centers with the aim of gaining better insights into the magnetic dynamics of complexes 1-6.

RESUMO

A 38-year-old male presented with waxy papules, plaques over the neck and extremities, and ichthyotic scales over the lower limbs. Skin biopsy revealed a dense medium-sized lymphocytic infiltrate in the dermis, with perifollicular accentuation and focal exocytosis into the follicular epithelium with strong positivity for CD 3, 4, and 5. Considering the clinicopathological correlation, a diagnosis of follicular mycosis fungoides (FMF) was made. It is a variant of classic mycosis fungoides (MF) where atypical cells invade the follicular epithelium.

RESUMO

The efficiency of deep aerated vertical flow constructed wetlands (DA-VFCWs) being operated in Hyderabad, India, was evaluated herein using physicochemical analysis and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The results showed 2-4-fold higher removal rate coefficients for Biochemical oxygen demand (1.32---3.53 m/d) and nitrogen (0.88--1.36 m/d) in DA-VFCWs than those of passive VFCWs. Elevated sulfate concentration in the DA-VFCWs effluent (84-113 mg/L) indicated possibility of sulfur-driven autotrophic denitrification (SDAD) as a major pathway operating in these wetlands besides the classical nitrogen removal pathways. The presence of nitrifiers (3.09-10.02 %), heterotrophic and aerobic denitrifiers (0.79-0.83 %), anammox bacteria (1.31-2.22 %) and SDAD bacteria (0.08-0.73 %) in the biofilm samples collected from the DA-VFCWs exemplify an interplay of Carbon-Nitrogen-Sulfur cycles in these systems. If proven, the presence of an operational SDAD pathway in DA-VFCWs can help reduce surface area requirement in VFCWs substantially besides alleviating biological clogging of the wetland substrate.

RESUMO

Skin cancer and other skin-related inflammatory pathologies are rising due to heightened exposure to environmental pollutants and carcinogens. In this context, natural products and repurposed compounds hold promise as novel therapeutic and preventive agents. Strengthening the skin's antioxidant defense mechanisms is pivotal in neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitigating oxidative stress. Sunset Yellow (SY) exhibits immunomodulatory characteristics, evidenced by its capacity to partially inhibit the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, regulate immune cell populations, and modulate the activation of lymphocytes. This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant and anti-genotoxic properties of SY using in-silico, in vitro, and physiochemical test systems, and to further explore its potential role in 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene (DMBA)/ 12-o-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced two-stage skin carcinogenesis. In vitro experiments showed that pre-treatment of SY significantly enhanced the cell viability of HaCaT cells when exposed to tertiary-Butyl Hydrogen Peroxide (tBHP). This increase was accompanied by reduced ROS levels, restoration of mitochondrial membrane potential, and notable reduction in DNA damage in (SY + tBHP) treated cells. Mechanistic investigations using DPPH chemical antioxidant activity test and potentiometric titrations confirmed SY's antioxidant properties, with a standard reduction potential ( E o ) of 0.211 V. Remarkably, evaluating the effect of topical application of SY in DMBA/TPA-induced two-step skin carcinogenesis model revealed dose-dependent decreases in tumor latency, incidence, yield, and burden over 21-weeks. Furthermore, computational analysis and experimental validations identified GSK3ß, KEAP1 and EGFR as putative molecular targets of SY. Collectively, our findings reveal that SY enhances cellular antioxidant defenses, exhibits anti-genotoxic effects, and functions as a promising chemopreventive agent.

RESUMO

Objective: This study sought to assess the prevalence of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) and factors associated with AEFI of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine (Covishield) among healthcare workers (HCW) of a medicine-teaching institution of North India. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the months of June and July 2021 among HCW (N = 203) of 18 years and above, vaccinated with at least the first dose of Covishield. A semi-structured, prevalidated, and pretested questionnaire was used to collect information through an interview schedule. The questionnaire was divided into five sections: the sociodemographic profile, behavioral characteristics, past medical history, COVID-19 awareness, and past infection and COVID-19 vaccine related information. Chi-squared test was applied to check the association of different factors with AEFI. Results: In our study, 73.89% of participants suffered from at least one AEFI after the first dose of the vaccine, while 48.66% had at least one AEFI after the second dose. Females reported significantly high AEFI for both doses (P = 0.001, 0.000). We found a significant association between the occurrence of AEFI and occupation (first dose P = 0.015), substance abuse (first dose P = 0.002), diet (first dose P = 0.016), and allergy (first dose P = 0.027). Other significant findings were headaches among HCW ≥40 years of age (dose P = 0.034) and systemic AEFI in participants with comorbidity (first dose P = 0.020). Conclusion: More AEFI were reported after the first dose as compared to the second dose. AEFI were more among females after both the doses. Occupation, substance use, diet, and history of allergy were significantly associated with AEFI.

RESUMO

Reactive arthritis is included in the spectrum of seronegative spondyloarthritides, occurring secondary to triggers of genitourinary and gastrointestinal tract infections. We describe two cases of sexually acquired reactive arthritis secondary to genital infection by Chlamydia trachomatis, diagnosed by in-house polymerase chain reaction performed on the first void urine. Both patients were managed with a combined approach of short course antibiotics, immunosuppressive agents, biologicals and surgical intervention.

RESUMO

Seven-membered homometallic FeIII7, MnIII3MnII4 coordination clusters were previously reported to be spin-frustrated molecular discs. Herein, a mixed bimetallic and mixed-valence dicationic [MnIIMnIII2NiII4(N3)4(hmp)10](NO3)2 (12+(NO3)2) was isolated in pure form without scrambling of Ni/Mn ions. It was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The presence of MnII ions at the center of the disc has been confirmed by EPR measurements. The magnetic studies suggest that complex 12+(NO3)2 possesses spin frustration with spin ground states S = 17/2 and 19/2, which has been studied and supported by DFT calculation. The purity of 12+(NO3)2 was confirmed by powder XRD measurements, and the ratio of Ni:Mn = 4:3 was further determined by SEM-EDX analysis.

RESUMO

Feeding billions, a healthy and nutritious diet in the era of climate change is a major challenge before plant breeders, geneticists and agronomist. In this context, the continuous search for adaptive and nutritious crops could be a better alternative to combat the problems of hunger and malnutrition. The zombi pea, a nutritious and underutilized leguminous vegetable, is one of such better alternatives to feed billions a nutritious food besides being a potential gene source for breeding abiotic stress resistant varieties. To evaluate its potential as a wonder crop in the tropical and subtropical regions of India, the nutritional status of tubers, pods and pericarp were investigated under different treatments of plant spacings and deblossoming. The experiment was conducted in split plot design with three replications and eight treatments during 2021-2022 in the coastal regions of India. The nutrient profiling in tubers and pericarp of pods in zombi pea revealed higher accumulation of nutrients viz. potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) with blossom retention. The zombi pea tubers reflected significantly high protein accumulation with the increase in plant spacing. The results pertaining to nutrient profiling in the pods of zombi pea indicated that the plant spacing has no significant effect on the accumulation of majority of nutrients under study. The above-mentioned findings are conspicuously novel and valuable. The present study would pave the way for understanding nutritional importance and breeding potential of this orphan crop. The blossom retention renders higher nutrient accumulation in tubers, pods and pericarp of zombi pea. Deblossoming has no significant influence on nutritional profile of this wonder crop but, wider spacing is effective in producing tubers with high protein content.

RESUMO

The Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) in northern India are vast alluvial tracts with huge shallow aquifers, densely populated and agriculturally productive regions. In the last few decades, IGP has been facing water scarcity driven by erratic monsoon dynamics, anthropogenic activity, and hydroclimatic variability. In urban centers, continuous groundwater withdrawal leads to high stress, affecting surface deformation and a threat to buildings and infrastructures. An attempt has been made to explore the possible linkage and coupling between groundwater level, hydroclimatic variables, and subsidence in the Central Ganga Plains (CGP), in Varanasi metropolis using the combined multisensory multitemporal data, Sentinel-1 (2017-2023), GRACE (2003-2023), groundwater levels (1998-2023), and precipitation (2002-2023). Long-term hydrological response in the CGP shows continuous depletion (14.6 ± 5.6 mm/yr) in response to precipitation variability. Results show spatiotemporal variations between GWS, and precipitation estimate with nonlinear trend response due to associated inter-annual/inter-seasonal climate variability and anthropogenic water withdrawal, specifically during the observed drought years. The significant storage response in the urban center compared to a regional extent suggests the potential impact of exponentially increasing urbanization and building hydrological stress in the cities. The implications of reducing storage capacity show measured land subsidence (∼2-8 mm/yr) patterns developed along the meandering stretch of the Ganga riverfronts in Varanasi. The groundwater level data from the piezometric supports the hydroclimatic variables and subsidence coupling. Considering the vital link between water storage, food security, and socioeconomic growth, the results of this study require systematic inclusion in water management strategies as climate change seriously impacts water resources in the future.

RESUMO

We report on the magnetic, electrical transport, caloric and electronic structure properties of TbFe4.4Al7.6polycrystalline alloy using experiment and theory. The alloy crystallizes in tetragonal structure with I4/mmm space group with lattice parametersa = b= 8.7234(5) Å andc= 5.0387(6) Å. It is ferrimagnetic with a compensation temperature ofTcmp∼151 K, Curie-Weiss temperatureθCW∼172.11 K and an effective magnetic momentµeff= (2.37±0.07)µB/f.u withZ= 2. At low temperatures, kinetic arrest-like first-order phase transition is realized through the thermal hysteresis between field-cooled cooling and field-cooled warming curves ofM(T) and virgin curves ofM(H) andρ(H)which are outside the hysteresis loops with metamagnetic transition. The high magnetic field suppression of multiple transitions and reduced coercive fieldHcoerand remnant magnetizationMremwith increasing temperature are reported.HcoerandMremcease to exist above the compensation temperatureTcmp. A correlation between the isothermal magnetization and resistivity is discussed. Specific heatC(T) analysis reveals a Sommerfeld parameter ofγ= 0.098 J⋅mol-1⋅K-2and a Debye temperature ofθD∼351.2 K. The sample is metallic as inferred from theρ(T)behavior and Sommerfeld parameter. The magnetoresistance of the alloy is low and negative which indicates the suppression of weak spin-fluctuations. This alloy avoids the tricritical point despite first-to-second order phase transition. The electronic and magnetic structure calculations, by making use of full potential linearized augmented plane wave method, suggest metallic ferrimagnetic ground state of TbFe4.4Al7.6with Tb atoms contributing ferromagnetically (5.87µB) and Fe atoms with antiferromagnetic contribution (2.67µB), in close agreement with the experimental observation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To describe the MRI features of histologically proven hybrid peripheral nerve sheath tumours (HPNST). METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the MRI features of 24 histologically proven cases of HPNST over 7 years. Demographic data obtained from clinical records included age, gender, and date of diagnosis. Two readers independently assessed MRI studies and assessed the following features: involvement of a major nerve, intramuscular location, lesion morphology, entering nerve sign, exiting nerve sign, target sign, fascicular sign, split fat sign, and ancient change (cystic change). Inter-observer agreement was assessed with Cohen's kappa coefficient. Histological diagnosis was based on either image-guided needle biopsy or resection histology. RESULTS: The study included 9 males and 15 females with mean age 50 years (range: 24-78 years). Nine tumours (35%) involved a major nerve including spinal roots (5), radial (1), median (1), tibial (1), and axillary (1), while 5 (21%) tumours were intramuscular. The mean tumour size was 4.2 cm (standard deviation of 2.4 cm). The frequency of MRI features was as follows: lobular contour (71%; 17/24), ancient change (38%; 9/24), fascicular sign (17%; 4/24), entering nerve sign (21%; 5/24), exiting nerve sign (13%; 3/24), target sign (13%; 3/24), and split fat sign (8%; 2/24). Inter-observer agreement was high, ranging from 0.7 to 0.83. CONCLUSIONS: HPNST infrequently demonstrate the classical MRI signs of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumours, but commonly have a lobular morphology and can show ancient/cystic change. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: This is the first study in the literature analysing the MRI features of histologically proven HPNST. HPNST infrequently shows the classical MRI signs that would be expected with benign peripheral nerve sheath tumours although commonly have a lobular morphology and show cystic change.

RESUMO

Dissociation of CO2 on copper surfaces is an important model system for understanding the elementary steps in catalytic conversion of CO2 to methanol. Using molecular beam-surface scattering methods, we measure the initial dissociation probabilities (S0) of CO2 on a flat, clean Cu(110) surface under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The observed S0 ranges from 3.9 × 10-4 to 1.8 × 10-2 at incidence energies of 0.64-1.59 eV. By extrapolating the trend observed in the incidence energy dependence of S0, we estimate the lower limit of the dissociation barrier on terrace sites to be around 2 eV. We discuss these results in the context of what is known from previous studies on this system using different experiments and theoretical/computational methods. These findings are anticipated to be valuable for correctly understanding the elementary steps in CO2 dissociation on Cu surfaces.

RESUMO

MAIN CONCLUSION: Integration of genomic approaches like whole genome sequencing, functional genomics, evolutionary genomics, and CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing has accelerated the improvement of crop plants including leafy vegetables like celery in the face of climate change. The anthropogenic climate change is a real peril to the existence of life forms on our planet, including human and plant life. Climate change is predicted to be a significant threat to biodiversity and food security in the coming decades and is rapidly transforming global farming systems. To avoid the ghastly future in the face of climate change, the elucidation of shifts in the geographical range of plant species, species adaptation, and evolution is necessary for plant scientists to develop climate-resilient strategies. In the post-genomics era, the increasing availability of genomic resources and integration of multifaceted genomics elements is empowering biodiversity conservation action, restoration efforts, and identification of genomic regions adaptive to climate change. Genomics has accelerated the true characterization of crop wild relatives, genomic variations, and the development of climate-resilient varieties to ensure food security for 10 billion people by 2050. In this review, we have summarized the applications of multifaceted genomic tools, like conservation genomics, whole genome sequencing, functional genomics, genome editing, pangenomics, in the conservation and adaptation of plant species with a focus on celery, an aromatic and medicinal Apiaceae vegetable. We focus on how conservation scientists can utilize genomics and genomic data in conservation and improvement.

RESUMO

In this study, pure and europium-doped (2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%) cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (NPs) were employed for efficient dye removal through photocatalytic approach. XRD and TEM confirmed the formation of pure CeO2 nanoparticles, while XPS and Raman spectroscopy were used to analyze the electronic properties and lattice defects, such as oxygen vacancies. The presence of lattice defects, which increased with the concentration of Eu, was found to be responsible for the enhanced degradation of Rose Bengal dye (82.4% for 8% Eu-doped sample) in 75 min. FTIR confirmed the chemical composition of the synthesized sample. The band at 617 cm-1, corresponding to the symmetrical stretching vibration mode of (Ce-O-Ce) or (Ce-O-Eu). The magnetic properties of synthesized samples were examined using VSM, revealing an increase from 4.48 to 11.0 emu/g in magnetization. This enhancement was attributed to F-center exchange mechanism (FCE), resulting from the presence of oxygen vacancies. These findings contribute to the development of advanced materials for sustainable wastewater treatment and spintronics.

RESUMO

Members of the conserved Pif1 family of 5'-3' DNA helicases can unwind G4s and mitigate their negative impact on genome stability. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, two Pif1 family members, Pif1 and Rrm3, contribute to the suppression of genomic instability at diverse regions including telomeres, centromeres and tRNA genes. While Pif1 can resolve lagging strand G4s in vivo, little is known regarding Rrm3 function at G4s and its cooperation with Pif1 for G4 replication. Here, we monitored replication through G4 sequences in real time to show that Rrm3 is essential for efficient replisome progression through G4s located on the leading strand template, but not on the lagging strand. We found that Rrm3 importance for replication through G4s is dependent on its catalytic activity and its N-terminal unstructured region. Overall, we show that Rrm3 and Pif1 exhibit a division of labor that enables robust replication fork progression through leading and lagging strand G4s, respectively.

RESUMO

National Family Health Survey (NFHS) has played a pivotal role in formulating policies and programs by providing nationally representative data on a wide range of monitoring and impact evaluation indicators in population, health and nutrition. However, due to measurement errors resulting in misreporting, the collection of accurate data on sensitive issues in sample surveys has always been a matter of concern. This study examines the fieldworker effect on the reporting of physical, sexual, and emotional Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) using fifth round of NFHS (2019-21) data in India. The cross-classified multi-level model was used to examine the fieldworker's effect on the reporting of IPV. The fieldworker effect accounted for around 32% of total variation in the reporting of intimate partner violence. The fieldworker's effect varied from 26% to 41 % for physical violence, 29% to 33% for emotional IPV and 30%-36% for sexual IPV. It was observed that variation due to fieldworker for non-sensitive outcomes was negligible.Of total variation, only 1.6% for information related to ever attending school, 4.8% for ever given birth, 5% for currently pregnant and 8.5% for information on ever terminated pregnancy was being explained by the fieldworker. Our results indicate a significant fieldworker influence on the likelihood of reporting intimate partner violence, underlining the need for an increased understanding of the impact of fieldworkers on data outputs, especially-but not exclusively-when queries contain delicate or stigmatized themes. This study highlights the importance of providing extra guidance and special training to the fieldworkers when collecting sensitive information related to IPV.

RESUMO

We describe the design, characterization, and application of a simple, highly collimated, and compact atomic/molecular beam source. This source is based on a segmented capillary design, constructed using a syringe needle. Angular width measurements and free molecular flow simulations show that the segmented structure effectively suppresses atoms traveling in off-axis directions, resulting in a narrow beam of Helium atoms having a width of 7 mrad (full width half maximum). We demonstrate an application of this source by using it for monitoring real-time changes in surface coverage on a clean Cu(110) surface exposed to oxygen by measuring the specular reflectivity of the Helium beam generated using this source.
